Minimum Wage Increase

Dear [Client’s Name],

We wanted to inform you of an important update regarding the minimum wage in Ontario, which may affect your payroll if you have employees earning minimum wage.

As of October 1, 2024, the Ontario government will be increasing the minimum wage rates as follows:

General Minimum Wage:

– The general minimum wage will increase from $16.55 to $17.20 per hour, representing a 3.9% increase tied to the Ontario Consumer Price Index.

Student Minimum Wage:

– The student minimum wage (applicable to students under 18 working 28 hours a week or less during school terms, or during breaks) will rise from $15.60 to $16.20 per hour.

Homeworkers Minimum Wage:

– If you employ workers who perform their duties from home, the homeworkers minimum wage will increase from $18.20 to $18.90 per hour.

Specialized Minimum Wage for Guides:

– The minimum wage for hunting, fishing, and wilderness guides will also increase, depending on the number of hours worked.

These changes are part of Ontario’s ongoing efforts to ensure that wages reflect the cost of living and inflation.

It’s important to ensure compliance with these new rates in your payroll starting from October 1, 2024 to avoid any potential penalties or issues.
